Take a look at many existing trading products and you may be appalled by the extremely dated, clunky, and visually confusing design inconsistent with modern software. We challenged ourselves to redefine the user experience in trading commodity, equity, and, cryptocurrency futures — not an easy feat.
After countless hours defining the product, speaking with traders from London to Singapore, building infrastructure, and running load tests, the EMX team is thrilled to unveil the long-awaited EMX Beta! We are excited to introduce a sleek, modern, and powerful trading interface — and stable and performant exchange — to the crypto and traditional derivative trading market.
Introducing the EMX Beta interface
A Modern User Interface
You will notice a clearly visible search bar to quickly find contracts, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin at the top of the trading interface. Once you select a contract, easily view price details including the last trade price, and place an order with the “Buy” and “Sell” buttons.
Also at the top near the right, see your maintenance and initial margins, Day P/L, Open P/L, and roll over to view a snapshot view of your account with additional balance details in Account Summary. Here, we focused on striking a balance to surface account information a day trader would find interesting without cluttering the interface for less frequent traders.
On the left, create a watchlist and add contracts to monitor their last trade price. Once you have a set of contracts on your watchlist, notice the chart in the center with a variety of customization options including the time period, display style, and study selections. Towards the bottom right hand corner of the chart, click on “+ Compare” to easily compare two different contracts, such as Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin.
Below the chart in Positions, click-and-drag the columns to rearrange the sort order and resize the column width tailored to your preference.

Prioritizing Price Over Speed
One of the unique features of EMX is a matching engine built using frequent batch auctions. Within an auction period (~250ms), there is no benefit of “racing” to get orders into the auction ahead of other traders as orders are matched purely on price for a more fair, accessible and uncomplicated trading experience for all. To learn more about periodic auctions, check out our previous post.
Trade Bitcoin from the Order Book
Whether you prefer to trade from the top “Trade” button, the order book, or the chart, the “Orders” table will clearly display all of your placed orders along with the status and age, ex. “1 minute”. Quickly view previously placed orders over in Order History and filled orders in Fills. Create a buy or sell limit order by selecting the row with the desired price under the “My Orders” column of the order book.
The EMX team is committed to continuously refining our product and adding new features to delight our users. We have an ambitious roadmap with our Trading Competition and our non-US exchange set to launch in early 2019. Other exciting products we are working on include the ability to trade from the charts, an affiliate program to easily refer and reward our users, and mobile apps for convenient trading on the go.
